Topped Out

The Hopetoun has topped out. The structure is complete to its highest level, and twelve single-level residences are taking shape in the heart of Canterbury.

Welcoming residents from mid 2027.

The Building

Architecture and landscape are conceived as one. Rather than occupying the site independently, the building is embedded within a carefully choreographed garden by Acre, where planting softens edges, mediates privacy and gives the architecture its measured presence. Material richness is tempered by vegetation, allowing the project to sit comfortably within Canterbury’s established landscape.

Landscape as Architecture

Landscape extends the character of Canterbury’s established tree canopy into the project itself. Designed by Acre, the planting is integral to how each residence is experienced, providing outlook, privacy and a changing seasonal backdrop.

Enduring Materiality

The building is anchored by handmade Krause brick, whose subtle tonal variation gives the masonry a depth that only becomes apparent over time. Precisely detailed yet deliberately understated, the material establishes permanence while allowing shadow, planting and changing light to become equally important elements of the façade.

The Entry Hall

Arrival is conceived as a moment of compression and release. A double-height stone volume draws the eye upward, establishing proportion rather than spectacle, while integrated lighting reveals the material’s natural variation.

The Residence Entry

Each residence is entered through a carefully composed threshold where proportion, materiality and light work in harmony. Restrained detailing creates a quiet sense of arrival, reinforcing privacy while extending the architectural language of the home.

Private Garaging

Every residence includes secure basement parking — double or triple lock-up garages, private storage, and EV charging provisioned to every garage.

The Interiors

The interiors favour longevity over novelty. A restrained palette of stone, timber and carefully detailed joinery establishes continuity throughout each residence, allowing proportion, natural light and material integrity to define the character of the spaces.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is conceived as both workspace and gathering place. Taj Mahal quartzite introduces a quietly expressive natural surface, chosen as much for its durability as its character, while warm timber joinery tempers the stone to create an interior that feels enduring rather than fashionable.

Living, Refined

Living spaces are organised around a finely detailed fireplace that anchors the room without dominating it. Stone, timber and integrated joinery work together to create an atmosphere that privileges comfort and everyday inhabitation over display.

Gas is connected throughout, and the fireplace is a genuine gas log fire.

The Ensuite Retreat

The ensuite continues the home’s disciplined material language. Stone surfaces are balanced by warm timber joinery and carefully considered detailing, creating spaces that feel composed and quietly luxurious without excess.

The Walk-in Robe

The walk-in robe is designed with tailored joinery and ample storage, offering both function and elegance. In selected residences, a dedicated dressing table provides a quiet space for daily rituals.

The Canterbury Lifestyle

Canterbury’s appeal lies less in spectacle than continuity. Mature avenues, neighbourhood cafés and long-established gardens create a setting where convenience and landscape exist in equal measure — among the most established of Melbourne’s inner-eastern suburbs.

A Leafy Address

Set within Canterbury’s leafy streets, the neighbourhood is characterised by mature trees and established gardens, creating a quiet, green setting that feels both relaxed and enduring.

Village Life

The Maling Road village precinct sits a short walk away — cafés, boutiques, and daily amenities along a charming heritage streetscape, lively yet relaxed.
